First Visit - For your first bodywork session please allow an additional
15-20 minutes for assessment and paperwork.

Expectations

We will be prompt for our appointments and ask you to be as well.
If your practitioner is late your next appointment for the same service is free.
If you are late, it will take away from the time we have reserved for you.
We provide draping for clients, and safe and non-sexual massage.
Please maintain your personal hygiene.

Payment - We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. Payment is due at
the time of service. Although we are not currently contracted as
in-network insurance providers, we can issue you a receipt for your appointment, if so desired, to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

Cancellations - We require that you give 24 hours notice prior to canceling an
appointment. If less than 24 hours is given, you will be charged the
full rate of the massage. Your appointment time is reserved for you and you alone.

Illness - If you have a contagious condition, please contact us as soon as possible
and reschedule your appointment.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone and may
refer them to another therapist.

The first thing your massage therapist will request is a completed health history form. This may be downloaded and filled out before you come in, or allow time to complete it when you arrive. After that the massage therapist will begin by looking over your health history form and asking you questions to determine if there are any conditions that need to be addressed and if massage will be appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may also perform other assessments to test and evaluate your condition to determine how to proceed.

Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room with soft music in the background to help you relax. You may bring your own music on CD or iPod. In the middle of the massage space will be a heated massage table designed for your comfort.

Depending on the massage technique your therapist uses, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. If you prefer, you may wear your underwear. Your massage therapist will leave the room to give you privacy as you undress. You are invited to get under the sheet on the table for your comfort. As your massage therapist works, the draping sheet is pulled back from the area being worked.

Make yourself comfortable and just relax. When performing some massage techniques the massage therapist will ask you to move a body part. Most of the time you just relax and allow your massage therapist to move you as needed. This is your massage. You may close your eyes and relax or talk during your massage. Feel free to adjust your position to be more comfortable. At any time if you feel something that is not to your liking, please let us know. We want you to enjoy your massage.

This depends on the massage technique or modality being used. Most massage begins with broad, flowing strokes or compressions to warm and soften the external muscle tissue and calm the nervous system. More pressure is then applied to work deeper tissues. Many massage techniques use a massage oil, gel, or lotion to reduce friction on the skin. If you have a sensitivity to certain oils or lotions, please let your massage therapist know. Some massage techniques involve slow friction strokes to loosen the fascia membrane around muscles to allow them to move more freely. Frequently in massage you will feel a rhythmic motion in the strokes helping bring about relaxation.

No, there are several medical conditions for which massage is inappropriate. This is the reason we ask you to fill out the health history form. The massage therapist may ask general health questions to see if you have any contraindications. It is important that you let the massage therapist know of any health conditions or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, you may need to get written permission from your doctor for us to give massage.

A session will typically last 60-90 minutes. A full body massage or some treatment work will require about an hour. Shorter sessions allow for work on a specific area. Be sure to allow some time before and after your massage for relaxation.

Most people feel very relaxed. Some feel freedom from long term aches and pains. After the initial period of relaxation, people frequently feel increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which may last for days. You may want to treat yourself to a hot Epsom salt bath to continue extend your period of relaxation.
